AMD’s Radeon Vega Frontier Edition has been revealed in a review by PCPerspective, revealing the GPU’s PCB design and the Vega chip.

In the picture, we can see the new Vega chip which has both GPU and HBM2 memory die in one package, saving a ton of space in PCB area compare to GDDR5/5X based GPU solutions. The GPU die size of 27.85mm x 20.25mm for the GPU excluding the HBM2 memory that is present the same package. This gives a die area of 564mm^2. The whole GPU package is 47.3mm x 47.3mm, giving a package area of 2,237mm^2.

AMD intergraded a vapor chamber heatsink on the GPU, which cooled by a blower-style fan. The heatsink used here seems a lot smaller than what we see on Nvidia’s GTX Titan series GPUs. The AMD Radeon Vega Frontier Edition has so much blank PCB just to support the cooler, which means the water cooled Vega can be made much smaller just like Fury X which features a short PCB.
