The upcoming AMD’s Zen 8-core Summit Ridge SR7 flagship processor will outperform Intel’s high-end Core i7-5960X but cost much lower than Intel, The SR7 flagship Zen chip will be priced at $499.
So far, we know AMD will launch three different Summit Ridge CPU in coming months, starting with the flagship SR7 in January 2017 at CES then the mid-range SR5 and entry-level SR3 SKUs will launch two months later in March 2017. Previous leaked shows us that the flagship 8 CPU cores, with 16 threads SR7 will be clocked at 3.2GHz base and 3.5GHz turbo clock speed with 16MB of L3 cache joined by 4MB of L2 cache, while we have a 95W TDP. The SR7 second SR7 series chip will also feature same core count and TDP as it bigger brother but drops the clocks down to 3.0GHz and 3.2GHz.
Now for pricing of these new Zen CPUs are very integrating, if the flagship Zen CPU will cost $499 and provide even closer/beats Intel’s $999+ CPUs, then it may bring AMD to its formula completive status in CPU market. There are also indications that the entry-level SR3 SKU which offer a 4-core, 8-threaded Zen CPU will be priced at $149, offering Core i7-6700 level performance. If that information is correct, then we will have very well performing CPUs at much lower price, and Intel may have to bring down their pricing also.
