ASUS ROG MAXIMUS XI Hero comes in typical ROG black-red motherboard box with features description on the front and the back with full spec list at the back.

The first thing you will notice that ASUS added similar lighting implantation as X299 Extreme, on the new heatsink and giving a little fresh look to the board.

The MAXIMUS XI Hero comes with a 4×2+2 phase VRM design powered by one 8-pin and one 4-pin EPS connector, which will take a detailed look later on. On the ringside, we can see the debug Post Code LED and onboard power and reset buttons. We also see the top M.2 slot under the small heatsink in the center.

The MAXIMUS XI Hero features three X16 PCI-e Gen3 slots, first one is wired to x16 and other two x8. Top tow x16 slots are metal reinforced for heavy graphics cards. There are three x1 slots as well. Under the PCH heatsink, we can see the second M.2 cover by a huge heatsink. On the right side, we can see six SATA ports and on the left is the audio setup with lots of gold capacitors.
