Packaging and Overview
Just like all current ASUS cards this one also comes in typical Black ROG boxes with card picture on top and features overview at the back.
Opening the box, we find The card itself with Speed Setup guide, the driver disk, two Velcro strips for cable management and one World of Warship premium key voucher.
The first impression was this card almost same size as the ASUS STRIX RX 480 which we reviewed previously. But the new STRIX RX 580 comes with a newly improved cooler with 40% more heat sink surface area for heat dissipation compared to previous 2-slot STRIX cooler designs. Not just heatsink the triple “Wing-Blade” fans are also updated to IP5X dust resistant for improved reliability and a longer lifespan. The cooler still features the integrated RGB Aura lighting.
In the back, is the same backplate design which we saw in the other card, A plain black color plate with sharp designs and a big ROG eye which is RGB illuminated.
The display output includes one DVI-D, two HDMI 2.0 and two Display Port.
The cooler is attached to the backplate with six screws, to remove the cooler completely you need to disconnect two power connectors, one for the fans and one for LEDs.
The new ROG STRIX RX 580 DirectCU III cooler features 6 heat pipes compeer to 5 heat pipes of STRIX RX 480, and same two aluminum fins stake but 40% more heat sink surface area compare to the previous version. Another change on the new cooler is the heat pipes not directly touch the GPU core, now there is a base plate for equal contact and maximum heat dissipations.
We also can see the ASUS using SAMSUNG GDDR5 memory and it covered by the metal bracket for added cooling.
