Forza Horizon 3 and Halo 5: Forge will use Microsoft’s new appx encryption

Just one month ago Microsoft announced their new encrypted appx format, with Forza Horizon 3 and Halo 5: Forge being the first titles to use this new form of digital protection. This new protection will be preventing these games from being modded and hopefully, protect them from piracy.

Forza Horizon 3

The new encryption appx format will encode all game files real-time in Windows, preventing the games from being tampered. This means that PC gamers won’t be able to mod Forza Horizons 3. After Forza Horizon 3 Microsoft planning to bring this encryption to Halo 5: Forge as well.

This new tool is good news for developers, allowing their games to be protected from piracy, though this will cost of any user made modifications.
