Intel Core i7-7740K and i5-7640K Codenamed “Kaby Lake-X,” with higher TDP and no IGP

Intel preparing to fight AMD Ryzen with two new quad-core processors, the Core i7-7740K and the Core i5-7640K. The new CPUs are based on a refined silicon codenamed “Kaby Lake-X.” compare to current i7-7700K and i5-7600K which is based on “Kaby Lake-S.” The new CPUs reputedly have higher TDP around 100W to 112W, which is much higher than top end AMD Ryzen R7-1800X features 95W TDP.

Also reputedly, Intel disabling the integrated graphics these new CPUs, which means the Core i7-7740K and the Core i5-7640K will require dedicated GPU to run. The new CPUs will also feature a high-performance thermal interface material (TIM) under the integrated heatspreaders (IHS). The Core i7-7740K and the Core i5-7640K will come with minor speed-bumps of 100MHz, but with higher TDP and better thermal interface material means the new CPUs could offer higher overclocking potential.
